When and Where to Plant

Plants are hardy and will withstand light frost. Direct-sow seed into garden several weeks before your last expected frost date so that the pea pods mature during cool weather. Re-seed again in late summer for a fall crop. choose a sunny location and a fertile well0drained soil with good drainage. space plants at least 4″ apart.

Care

Mulch around plants with organic material such as grass clippings or shredded leaves to keep the soil weed-free and cool. To keep seed from rotting start some seed indoors or a moist paper napkin and when the seed coat splits and a root emerges, transfer to the garden.

Harvest

Store by shelling the dried peas and place in glass jars, or freeze freshly shelled peas.
